The I/Q Modulation Generator R&S AMIQ and the Simulation Software R&S
WinIQSIM open up new dimensions for the generation of I/Q signals. The R&S
AMIQ is a dual-channel modulation generator that has consequently been designed
for use as an I/Q source. It is programmed and set with the Software R&S
WinIQSIM. The R&S AMIQ outputs I/Q baseband signals or even can generate an IF
signal (up to 25 MHz).
In combination with the Vector Signal Generator R&S SMV03 the I/Q baseband
signal can be upconverted to the RF.
Each channel can store 16 000 000 samples. Even at high symbol rates sequences
of sufficient length can thus be generated. With clock frequencies of up to 100
Msample/s and a high amplitude resolution of 14 bits (16 bits resolution with
digital output, option R&S AMIQ-B3), R&S AMIQ is the ideal source for any
signal in the world of digital modulation.
An automatic amplitude/offset alignment as well as fine adjustment of the skew
provide excellent symmetry of the two channels which previously was extremely
difficult to attain with dual-channel ARB generators. The error vector can thus
be minimised. A typical application of R&S AMIQ and R&S WinIQSIM is not only
to drive the I/Q inputs of a vector signal generator but also for baseband
applications, e.g. for testing I/Q modulators/demodulators.
High Flexibility
The software R&S WinIQSIM that is delivered with the R&S AMIQ can simulate
either single carrier signals, multi carrier signals or CDMA/W-CDMA signals with
an unchallenged flexibility. All signal parameters can be programmed freely. A
flexible Data Editor allows the individual configuration of TDMA signals.
Preprogrammed standard settings for the most common communication standards are
supplied with WinIQSIM. Furthermore with the external Software R&S WinIQOFDM
and the option R&S AMIQK15 signals according to the standards HIPERLAN/2 or
IEEE 802.11a can be generated.
Any digital modulation type can be generated including standards still in
definition or proprietary standards. All signal parameters can be modified
independently and additional impairments can be introduced in order to test out
the limitations of a communication system. When new standards are introduced,
R&S WinIQSIM can quickly and easily be upgraded. The flexible data editor
allows the configuration of user-defined TDMA standards. This is an ideal
functionality for people defining new standards or working on very exotic
applications.
100 MHz sample rate
The AMIQ offers an internal clock rate of 100 MHz (105 MHz in overrange).
100 MHz clock rate ensure high data rates with high oversampling. Therefore the
AMIQ is the ideal instrument for applications as e.g. W-CDMA with high chip
rates. Furthermore signals for multi carrier applications can be generated.
16 MSamples memory depth
With the large memory of AMIQ e.g. up to 100 W-CDMA frames can be generated.
Application
BER test with framed data is possible (PRBS sequences will not be truncated due
to the large memory in most cases).
Integrated hard disk and floppy disk drive
Internal hard disk drive (8 GByte)
The large memory size of the internal hard disk drive allows the storage of a
high number of waveforms which can be managed easily by the use of WinIQSIM.
Once stored on the HDD calculated waveforms can be downloaded directly into the
output memory. This is a great advantage for applications in production where
many different signals have to be generated within a short time.
14-bit resolution (16 bit with optional digital output AMIQ-B3)
The AMIQ‘s 14 bit DA conversion guarantees low quantization noise and ensures
best signal quality regarding spectral purity which is ideal e.g. for
multicarrier applications.
IF generation up to 25 MHz
No additional RF-Generator is needed. Baseband and IF-Signals can be generated
with one box. That means lower costs and only one single box for signals up to
25 MHz. No modulation errors occur due to the fact that the IF-signal is
calculated from the baseband signal. That makes the AMIQ an ideal source for
demodulator tests!
Multi carrier simulation
The AMIQ offers an internal clock rate of 100 MHz (105 MHz in overrange).
100 MHz clock rate ensure high data rates with high oversampling. Therefore the
AMIQ is the ideal instrument for applications as e.g. W-CDMA with high chip
rates. Furthermore signals for multi carrier applications can be generated.
Optional Bit Error Rate (BER) measurement (AMIQ-B1)
The BERT option (AMIQ-B1) for AMIQ allows BER measurements on a DUT with PRBS
data. For this purpose the AMIQ sends a PRBS sequence to the DUT and
simultaneously synchronizes on the demodulated bits provided by the DUT.
No additional measurement equipment is needed. If no clock signal from the DUT
is available an "external" clock signal can be provided by the use of one of the
four marker channels.
Optional differential I/Q outputs (AMIQ-B2)
Differential I/Q outputs are available as an option for the AMIQ (AMIQ-B2)
Calibrated single box solution for differential drive of I and Q. In the past,
customers have had to assemble differential drive circuits for this application.
With AMIQ-B2 the AMIQ is the ideal source for chip testing. It offers a wide
range of flexibility to adapt signal levels offsets etc. to the device under
test. Differential I/Q-signals are more and more used for chip tests as
crosstalks are avoided.
Optional digital output (AMIQ-B3)
Beside the analog I/Q output the AMIQ provides also the digital signal output
when equipped with the option AMIQ-B3 Application
Test of chips (e.g. D/A converters) or base stations with digital inputs
Import of user waveforms
The application software IQWizard (Download) allows to import waveforms created
with SW tools such as MATLAB, MATHCAD, COSSAP, etc
Direct playback of signals used by design simulation software. The AMIQ
translates engineering models directly to the real world. By using already
available data users can directly take advantage of the AMIQ’s outstanding
performance without recalculating waveforms with WinIQSIM.
